Season 1 – Episode 3: Steel the Show

To completely understand how the process of recycling comes full circle, John Sacco goes on a journey through SSAB’s steel mill in Iowa to witness steelmaking up close and personal. SSAB’s Senior Metallurgist, Nolan Nelson, takes us behind the science of creating new steel from recycled metal and walks through the entire process.  After leaving a recycling facility, recycled metals are transported to a steel mill to get sorted by grade and type, which is later melted inside an electric arc furnace (EAF) to make into new steel.

Robin Wiener and Jim Keefe discuss the historical prevalence of recycling and its future impact on our society and the Earth.
